Magma Taishi Chapter 5 – You're Not My Mama!!!

So, not sure if that should be a have or has in that first bubble there but… this page made me laugh out loud. I guess Japan or maybe just Tezuka perceives the Self Defense Forces as being weak and stupid compared to the U.S. Air Force, I didn’t really know.

This evil mama is kind of cool. One question about this chapter. Goa invites Murakami and his family to see him in and how powerful he is in the past so he’ll write about him, but then he actually censors the news when they bring him up. Why?!

    I think “have” is correct. Let’s see…

“The Japan Self Defense Forces have been sent out”
“The American Air Force has been sent out”
“The Japan Self Defense Forces and the American Air Force have been sent out”

    That seems right to me.

It’s great to see that someone is finally getting around to translating more Tezuka works thanks for the awesome translations!

P.S. If your looking for a series to do after Magma I would like to recommend Captain Ken or maybe his works from the 40s like New Treasure Island.

Thanks for your comment 🙂 I think Captain Ken would be great to get around to sometime. I am putting a lot of time into the site, but still building up projects at a faster rate. Treasure Island I have a feeling might, might, maybe make it over, so it’s one of those I want to give some more time before I would do it to see if it gets published.

I think “Shin Takarajima” should have been released a long time ago with Metropolis, Lost World and Nextworld by Dark Horse. They had their chance but did not publish it then. So which publisher might bring it out? Vertical Limit? VL is only publishing works longer than 300 Pages until now, so I think they have no interest in Takarajima.

        Come on, man!

        Translate it! 😉

Mmm… well it’s something I’m pretty conflicted about. I’m not brushing it off easily. That’s a good point about VL doing things only over 300 pages. I wonder if they’ll stick to only long stuff? Really, I’m pretty curious what they want to do, how long they plan to go, now that they’ve went all the way back to Princess Knight… I want to see what they’re thinking about doing after that.

I looked over the Shin-Takarajima volume in the complete collection and it’s interesting that Tezuka included a long note himself about how he didn’t want it in the complete collection, it was heavily revised (from his original 250 pages to the 180-something it is now) and, and he just didn’t feel like it really was a good representation of his work. After he died they released a “revival edition” but, who knows how he would have felt about it. Even this new edition isn’t the 250 pages he was talking about anyway, according to him those pages were lost a long time ago (maybe you know all this, sorry). But just because of all the mystique surrounding it, I’d say it would at least have to be a pretty big project where I would go through both the editions and the commentary on them, something for a while down the road.
