  1. First, have to apologize about misreading that Fred and Anna are father and daughter. They’re actually uncle and niece.

Anyway, not bad stuff these chapters, some funny stuff. Horses riding each other looks a little sexual but it’s funny either way. Sometimes I feel I can’t avoid being corny with some of the lines but, maybe it’s ok that way, as a genre manga.

Something I find really fascinating about this set of chapters is how Angel Gunfighter is pulling from and referencing other genres. Locking Anna up in the tower is a really fairy tale-like turn of events, and the panel with Ham Egg and his goons burying the chest looks like a direct reference to Treasure Island, or stories like it.

Also, the panel where Ham Egg proposes marriage to Anna is great–with his talk about spiriting her off to New York, it looks like it’s pretty much a callback to Milton Gross’s “He Done Her Wrong,” whose villain (the inspiration for Hams) did something very similar.

    • I was thinking the same thing about locking Anna up in the tower. She’s like some princess being locked up in this tower that for some reason is conveniently in this town.

Thanks for mentioning the Milton Gross. I’ll have to look into it!

Whoops! I got it wrong, it’s actually Milt Gross 😡 Sorry! It’s a great book though, I really like it.

(and yeah why is there a tower in a wild west town anyway)
